Terms of Service

The short version: Quoth helps you share a moment from a podcast. The podcast still belongs to the people who made it. Be decent, and we will too.

Last updated October 13, 2026

Using Quoth

These terms are an agreement between you and Quoth (“Quoth”, “we”, “us”), the service at quoth.fm. By using Quoth you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.

You need to be at least 13 years old. If you’re under the age of majority where you live, ask a parent or guardian to read this with you.

You don’t need an account to make a clip. If you make one, you’re responsible for what happens under it, so keep your sign-in safe.

What Quoth does

You tell us which show and episode you were listening to, and the line you remember. We find it in a transcript we make of the episode, and give you a short link that plays just that part, with a quote card that previews well in chat apps.

  • Clips are capped at about 90 seconds (a Quote) or 5 minutes (a Segment), and always link back to the full episode.
  • There are no downloads. A clip only exists as a Quoth link.
  • Transcripts are made by software and can be wrong. A quote on Quoth may not match exactly what was said. When it matters, listen to the audio.
  • We may change, pause or stop parts of Quoth at any time.

The shows own their shows

The audio, words and artwork in a clip belong to the people who made the podcast. Quoth does not own them and does not claim to. We show the show’s name, the episode and artwork next to every clip as a source citation.

Quoth is the messenger. A clip on Quoth does not mean the show made it, approved it or is connected to us. Please don’t share a clip in a way that suggests otherwise.

If you make or own a show and you want clips removed or your show opted out, see For podcasters. If you think a clip infringes your copyright, see Copyright & DMCA.

Your clips

When you make a clip, you choose what part of an episode it covers. Please only make clips you’d be comfortable having the show see.

You give Quoth permission to host, play, display and share your clip (the audio excerpt, the quote text and the link) as part of running the service, including in link previews on other sites and apps. That permission lasts for as long as the clip is live. We don’t claim any ownership of the show’s content through this, and you can’t give us rights in it that you don’t have. All you’re giving us is what you chose to quote.

Clips are public to anyone who has the link. They’re not listed or searchable by default, but don’t make a clip of anything you’d want kept private.

Rules of the road

Please don’t:

  • use Quoth to copy, download, rip or rebuild a show’s audio, including by making lots of clips that add up to a whole episode;
  • clip content you have no right to share, or content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing or deceptive;
  • edit, splice or present a clip so that it changes what the speaker meant, or so that it looks like the show said or endorsed something it didn’t;
  • try to get around our limits, scrape the service, probe it for weaknesses, or use it in a way that harms other people or our systems;
  • pretend to be someone else, or to be affiliated with a show.

We limit how many new episodes a person can have transcribed each day. Episodes that others have already made clips from are available again without that limit.

Takedowns, opt-outs and repeat infringers

We respond to copyright notices under the process on our Copyright & DMCA page, and we let shows opt out entirely (see For podcasters).

We may remove any clip, at any time, if it breaks these rules or a rights holder asks. Accounts and devices that repeatedly infringe will lose access.

Ending things

You can stop using Quoth whenever you like. To delete your account, or clips you made, email privacy@quoth.fm.

We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or put the service or other people at risk.

No guarantees

Quoth is provided “as is” and “as available”. We try hard, but we don’t promise it will always work, always find the line you remember, or that a link will last forever (a clip can be removed if a show or rights holder asks).

To the fullest extent the law allows, Quoth and the people behind it aren’t liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for losses from content made by other people. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to [amount to be set by counsel]. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

The rest

  1. Changes. We may update these terms. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top, and for big changes we’ll say so on the site. Using Quoth after a change means you accept it.
  2. Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of [state or country to be set by counsel], and disputes go to the courts there, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
  3. If part is unenforceable. If a piece of these terms turns out not to be enforceable, the rest still applies.
  4. Privacy. How we handle your data is in our Privacy Policy.
