Copyright & DMCA

Shows own their shows. If a Quoth clip uses your work in a way you didn't agree to, here's how to get it taken down.

Last updated October 13, 2026

How it works

Quoth clips are short excerpts, capped at about 90 seconds or 5 minutes, always credited to the show and linked back to the full episode. There are no downloads. We respect the rights of the people who make podcasts, and we respond to notices of claimed infringement under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512).

  1. Find the clip. Every clip page has a small takedown link at the bottom. It opens the takedown form with that clip already filled in: quoth.fm/takedown?clip=…
  2. Send us a notice. Use the form, or write to our designated agent below. What a notice needs is listed in the next section.
  3. We review it. If the notice is complete, we remove the clip promptly: the link stops playing, and we delete the clip’s audio and its preview image. We email you to say what we did.
  4. The person who made the clip may hear about it. If they were signed in when they made it, we email them that it was removed, and they can send a counter-notice (see below). Clips made without an account have no address for us to write to.

If you make or own the show and want all of it out of Quoth, you don’t need to send clip-by-clip notices: see For podcasters to opt your show out.

What a takedown notice needs

To be effective under the DMCA, a notice has to include all of these:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature (a typed full name is fine), as the copyright owner or someone authorized to act for them.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work you say was infringed.
  3. Identification of the clip on Quoth, with its link (for example quoth.fm/k3x9), so we can find it.
  4. Your name, mailing address, telephone number and email address.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use isn’t authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act for the owner.

Knowingly sending a false notice can make you liable for damages, including costs and attorneys’ fees (17 U.S.C. § 512(f)). If you’re not sure a clip infringes, you may want to talk to a lawyer first.

Our designated agent

Email: dmca@quoth.fm

If your clip was removed (counter-notice)

If you made a clip that was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you can send us a counter-notice. It has to include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. Identification of the clip that was removed, and where it appeared before it was removed.
  3. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the clip was removed as a result of a mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your name, address and phone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for that address (or, if you’re outside the United States, any judicial district where Quoth can be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice.

When we get a complete counter-notice, we pass it to the person who sent the original notice. If they don’t tell us within 10 business days that they’ve filed a court action, we may restore the clip between 10 and 14 business days after we received the counter-notice.

Repeat infringers

We have a policy of ending access, in appropriate circumstances, for people who are repeat infringers. In practice that means: if an account or device keeps making clips that are taken down for infringement, we will block it from making new ones. We decide what counts as repeated case by case.

Other kinds of reports

  • A clip that misquotes someone, or misrepresents what the show said: use the same takedown link on the clip page and tell us what’s wrong.
  • Something else about copyright or this page: email dmca@quoth.fm.

Our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy explain the rest. Notices and counter-notices you send us, including your name and contact details, may be shared with the other party.
